Rebecca Akl (ex Al Riyadi) joins Al Sharjah for the Arab tournament

Al Sharjah (D1) agreed terms with 32-year old Lebanese-Brazilian international point guard Rebecca Akl (170cm-1992) for the Arab tournament

She is the second foreign player in the roster as USA Nicole Hernandez signed here earlier. She played last season at Al Riyadi in the Lebanese WLBL. In 22 games just recently she had 14.9ppg, 5.3rpg, 5.9apg, and 1.8spg. She helped them to win the League title (eight times) (six times). A very impressive season as she was voted Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Domestic Player of the Year, named to All-Domestic Players Team, and named to Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League First Team. The last season she played at MGS Panserraikos Serres in the Greek league. She also played for GS Kocidar in the Algerian league.
Akl represented Lebanon at the FIBA Asia Cup for Women in Shenzhen (China) this year. She was the best scorer at the tournament with over 16 points per game, while she helped her team to win Bronze.
She is quite an experienced player. Akl's career allowed her to visit three different continents, while she played in five different countries. She tasted the life as a pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Akl has played previously in Algeria, Greece (Esperides, Chania, and PAOK Thessaloniki), Spain (Leganes), and Czech Republic (Brno).
Among many awards, she was also selected as the Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Player of the Year in 2024.
